MATTHEW lesson 11

Authority. I think even the word puts us off a little. Authority seems to conjure up ideas of hierarchy, bossiness and, to put it bluntly, loss of control. Except of course if I am the authority! But the world’s idea of authority and the kingdom’s idea are vastly different. And Jesus wants to make sure His disciples – us – understand the kind of authority He is expressing and eventually handing down to us. Therefore, Matthew inserts into his 20 and 21st chapters Jesus’ thoughts on authority just as He is about to enter Jerusalem.
