Where are all the priests, and what have they been doing? Perhaps that isn’t even a question you’ve thought about all through the battle-pages of the book of Judges. But it is a question that needs to be answered. Especially since it is the priests, the Levites that God has designated to “go first,” to model for Israel what a connection with God looks like and how it affects everything. And this is the question that is answered in these last five chapters of Judges. The answer, unfortunately, is not pretty. Maybe it will give us pause, as “priests” under the New Covenant, as to what affect our choice of bearings has on those around us, as well as the generations to come.
