JUDGES lesson 5

What one chore do you prefer to do yourself? The most common answer I’ve received is “laundry”. My answer is probably a bit more unusual – mowing – but that doesn’t change the common reason that we all prefer to do some things ourselves. The fact is, we are each better at doing some things than others are. I’m pretty good at mowing because I take all the details in – the edges at different heights, the patterns that need to be alternated, the attention needed near the plants that want to poke out and get in the way of the blade. And to top it all off, I ENJOY mowing. The things we do well give us pleasure. In the same vain, there is something God does better than any of us and He enjoys doing it. That something is Ruling, Directing, Showing us the path to life. These next chapters in Judges, 8-12, all focus on ruling and what it looks like when we take that job away from God.
