*HEBREWS II lesson 7
What would you say is the advantage of marrying over living together? Most people, married and singles alike, would point to the idea of security. Not just the security of feeling physically safe, but emotionally safe as well. Someone in our group said it especially well, “The promises made allow you to be who you really are.” Yes, I think that’s it. Within the old marriage vows is a promise to remain “for better, for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health.” Marriage promises that the relationship will be based on grace. And grace is always freedom, wherein lays joy and gratitude. It’s this very same foundation that Jesus has in the kind of priesthood He inhabits. But it takes a lot of deconstruction for the Hebrews’ readers to get there. I wonder if in reality it isn’t the same for us.
