*HEBREWS II lesson 4
What is the fascination with remote-control cars? Or for that matter, remote-control anything? I imagine this is one question we don’t have to think twice about. In fact, the fascination is spelled out for us in its very name: control. Funny how just a little power makes us feel, well, powerful. And it is that very thing that seems to drive us in many areas of life. Oh, of course we wouldn’t want to admit that out loud. But it is true that most, if not all, of us believe that if we just had a little more control over our life, our circumstances, then things would be right. Unfortunately that goes against the grain of how we’ve been made. And in truth, it really doesn’t work that way. So someone who has our best interest at heart is needed to gently strip that idea away. Perhaps a high priest could do just that. But of course, not just any high priest. Certainly not one who is sold out to the establishment (read: place of control). And the writer of Hebrews knows just that sort of rebel!
