EZRA lesson 1

Did you see that couple this morning getting into their car together? You probably thought nothing of it. It happens every day. But there is a backstory you may be unaware of. A story that may give meaning to that simple action. That couple wasn’t going to work together today. No, today they were driving downtown to the University of Chicago for a cancer surgery for the husband. And maybe even more of the story will give even more depth–they’ve only been married a little over a year. And they’ve only moved here 6 months ago. That means they don’t have community to come around during a time like this. Now…with the backstory, all of a sudden you’re connected. You feel the heartache because you’ve had heartache. You understand that getting into the car was an action leading to a radically changed life. Keeping in mind that we all have a backstory helps us to also be more aware that the things in our life have meaning. The backstory of the remnant Jews coming back to Jerusalem is a great one. And it gives great meaning behind their journey. Hopefully, in seeing their story, we’ll also see the meaning in ours.
