MATTHEW lesson 13
The word “come” throughout the book of Matthew is used as a kind of shorthand for the invitation to grace. And now we come to Matthew 25 where the disciples ask about Jesus’ “coming” – often referred to in evangelical circles as His “Second Coming.” Herein lies the rub. For I’ve often been presented this idea with an underlying sense of fear connected to this very “second coming.” Yet Jesus here, as He so often does, tells the disciples, us, “Do not be frightened.” So then, how do we approach Jesus’ coming…all His comings? Does it inform at all how we live today? And what place grace?
