How prone do you think you are to being tempted by the secular paradigm? That is, do you find some things in your life to be about your relationship with God, and other things completely uninvolved with that relationship? We don’t want to think that we divide our life into sacred and secular, but in reality it is so ingrained in our culture that we are all pulled by it to some extent. The real problem with that is it becomes a slippery slope into which we fall deeper and deeper and we don’t even recognize it. That’s what has happened to the returning exiles in Ezra, and it’s why the prophet Haggai is called onto the scene. We shouldn’t be surprised at how very relevant Haggai’s message is to us.
